Travel Sentry's Role and Dedication

Travel Sentry is a proudly certified business member of 1% for the Planet, committing to donate 1% of annual sales to support environmental organizations. This aligns with our dedication to reducing our carbon footprint and greenhouse gas emissions, supporting the Net Zero Initiative. We aim for net zero by 2050 or sooner, contributing to global emissions reduction efforts and enhancing energy efficiency.

1% for the Planet was founded in 2002 by Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, founder of Blue Ribbon Flies. It now includes 5,200+ business members and 6,700+ environmental partners. It spans 110+ countries, with over $635 million certified in donations.

A Network of Accountability and Impact

1% for the Planet ensures businesses uphold their commitment to environmental giving. 

By contributing 1% of their annual sales, members have raised significant funds to support global environmental partners. These partners are vetted for their track record and environmental focus, ensuring effective and impactful giving. We are proud to be part of this movement, which aims to increase environmental philanthropy and drive on-the-ground action for the planet’s future.

The network supports various initiatives, including education for women through partners like Room to Read, demonstrating a broad commitment to sustainable development and social responsibility.

Celebrating Commitment

"Commit, then figure it out" is the ethos of 1% for the Planet. Celebrating over 20 years of dedication, the organization continues to grow, welcoming new members.

Kate Williams, CEO of 1% for the Planet, emphasizes the need for greater support, with only a small percentage of philanthropy currently allocated to environmental causes like reducing CO2 emissions, capturing and storing carbon dioxide, and meeting net-zero targets.

Join Us in Making a Difference

1% for the Planet invites businesses to share their certification and commitment with employees, customers, and communities. The organization provides resources for marketing campaigns, partnership stories, and opportunities to celebrate collective action at events. The certification prevents greenwashing, ensuring reputable giving and accountability. This commitment aligns with the Paris Agreement goals to limit global temperature rise and achieve long-term climate stability.

Being a member of the 1% for the Planet means Travel Sentry has the privilege of supporting fantastic companies and projects globally.

One of these partners is City to Sea, an environmental organization dedicated to ending plastic pollution through targeted campaigns for individuals and businesses.

Their award-winning campaign is Refill, which aims for a world where people can easily reuse their bottles, cups, and containers wherever they go. Refill is an app that helps people discover local businesses where they can buy food, drinks, and other products with less waste. The app is free to download and allows users to easily find nearby places to get a refill.

A few statistics from City to Sea and World Refill Day:

  • The Refill campaign has saved an estimated 60 million + plastic bottles since it launched
  • They have reached over half a million downloads of the Refill app
  • The number of people who usually drink tap water on the go is now more than doubled from 1 in every 5 people (18%) to 1 in every 2 people (55%) since the Refill campaign launched
